Chad Cage, Director of Tennis   Former star player and coach at Southwestern University in Texas and head tennis pro in Seagrove Beach, Chad Cage has a new gig director of tennis at The Club in Gulf Breeze.

On the job for just two weeks, he has already helped put together the 64-player field of the family sports complex's annual Heads-N-Tails mixed-doubles tournament, which begins play Friday.

"I'm really enjoying it," said Cage, who will receive his masters degree in health, leisure and exercise science at the University of West Florida this spring. "I want to enhance the programs here and get right into it with the Heads-N-Tails tournament this weekend and the junior tournament in mid-April."
Cage played No.1 singles and doubles at the Georgetown, Texas based university. He then coached his alma-mater's men's and women's programs from 1999-2005. He moved to Northwest Florida in '05 in part to be closer to his wife Kim's family she grew up in the Fort Walton Beach area and took the job as head pro at the WaterColor Inn and Resort in Seagrove Beach near Destin.
He also received the (Pat) Etcheberry coaches certification
for tennis, strength, conditioning and movement at Tampa's esteemed Saddlebrook Resort and has locally interned at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze.

Being involved with teaching the sport in some capacity for several years has allowed Cage to feel more relaxed with a larger crowd than one with less experience.

Rather than a test or challenge, this weekend's event is "more like an opportunity to meet everybody
I plan to delve into it and see what the area's talent has got it should be three days of good tennis," said Cage, who also is a certified health fitness instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine. "It will have a lot of teams from Gulf Breeze, Pensacola and Navarre, and we have a team from Dothan, Ala. coming down, so it should be exciting."
He's also got the seal of approval from the people in charge at The Club.
"The owners, Chuck and Penny Emling are avid tennis fans, so they're very, very supportive already," Cage said. "I'm looking forward to programs I can put into place. I hope to continue strong junior and adult clinics, and also, with the footwork and the agility training that I have, I want to add that to the tennis lessons. I want to add that to improving their health as well as their tennis skills."
